CSUN to Screen Netflix Documentary Produced by Alumna

(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., Dec. 6, 2023) – California State University, Northridge (CSUN) is hosting a screening of the Netflix documentary “Victim/Suspect,” produced by journalism alumna Rachel de Leon on Dec. 7 in Manzanita Hall’s Armer Screening Room. The event, sponsored by the Mike Curb College of Arts, Media and Communication and the Criminology department, is open to the public. This Netflix documentary examines the challenges that young women often face when being overlooked by law enforcement officials after experiencing sexual assault.

The screening room is located inside of Manzanita Hall, just east of Etiwanda Avenue. The public is invited to a reception at 5 p.m. with the film showing from 6-7:30 p.m. Filmmaker, investigative journalist and CSUN alumna: Rachel de Leon, will host a brief discussion at the close of the film.

“I am so excited to be back where my passion for investigative journalism began,” said de Leon. “I am looking forward to talking with the current students, and letting them know their work matters, and how they can make the world a little better.” De Leon is described as an award-winning journalist who examines a law of sexual assaults, where the victims were accused of the alleged crimes.

Closed captions and an ASL interpreter will be provided at the screening. Those needing additional assistance should make note when registering to attend the event. Registration for the event and more information can be found at: https://forms.gle/PFRRtdQtgr3bqipS6
