E Board Retreat Kicks Off Fall Semester!
By Susan Morrow
After a few weeks of throwing ideas around, the Cal State Northridge PRSSA executive board decided on a hike to The Grotto in the beautiful Santa Monica Mountains.
Our day began bright and early with a 1.5-hour drive from campus through steep, narrow and windy roads that lead us to Circle X Ranch Visitor Center, marking the start to our bonding adventure.
With lunches packed and agendas on mind, we set for a 3.5-mile round trip hike to the Grotto, a boulder-filled canyon with small talus caves that covers a creek in the mountains.
We navigated through rocky terrain and endless mosquitoes by working together and sharing a few laughs. Eventually, we made it to a quiet area where we could discuss PRSSA goals and responsibilities.
We each pledged to uphold the highest ethical standards, adhere to the PRSSA Code of Ethics, commit to executive titles and advocate for PRSSA and the profession of public relations.
After we discussed business over lunch, the hike back proved to be difficult, but we managed to push through.
Once at cellphone range, we were astonished the hike took us five hours to complete. Needless to say, we were tired and sore, but most importantly inspired and proud of the connections and memories we made.
The retreat was a success and the hike to the Grotto demonstrated the teamwork required from all members of CSUN PRSSA in order to have a successful fall semester.
